What's involved?

Participating in Living Lightly Locally will involve a combination of self-paced learning and actively contributing to research (citizen science).
The first pilot commenced in June 2022, with the second intake scheduled for April 2023. Both programs  run for 12 months. Each month is related to a specific topic. Videos and other learning resources will be available via a dedicated program website, covering topics like: wellbeing, waste, energy, water, transport, home, garden, food, climate and community.
It doesn't matter whether you know nothing or you consider yourself an expert in any or all of these topics - we would love you to participate either way, so that we can learn from you. That's because the research component of this program involves participants identifying and setting goals related to the different topics, then measuring their progress towards their goals and reporting what works and what doesn't.

The program aims to build a better understanding of what sort of change matters to different people, and what makes this change easier or harder to achieve.

Participation will be mostly online, in your own time and at your own pace. We’ll hold monthly sessions (mostly online for flexibility) to interact as a group around particular topics, and to hear from experts and/or 'local legends'.

Activities:
Apart from monthly group sessions, there may be optional (ad hoc) field trips to local places of interest to change-makers, and events held in person (subject to sufficient group interest, and public health guidelines) to build the community and connections as a group.
Time commitment:
As a minimum, participation would involve approximately half an hour to an hour a week (i.e. 2 to 4 hours per month). The program is designed to be flexible - each month consists of watching a topic video (~30mins) in your own time, engaging with online surveys and goal-setting activities, and (optionally) attending a live session with other participants (1 to 1.5 hrs). Beyond this, participants may opt to spend extra time sharing with each another (either online or in person).

COVID-19 arrangements:
The program is designed to operate fully online if necessary, to allow uninterrupted participation even under lockdown conditions.

Eligibility / who can be involved:
Anyone 18 years or over, if you live, work or play in or near the Mount Barker District Council region or the City of Burnside.
