Introducing Living Lightly Locally
Have you ever wondered why it sometimes seems so hard to make the changes we know we need to make, in order to live happier, healthier, simpler, more locally connected and regenerative lives?
Well, so have we! Living Lightly Locally is a free education and research program aimed at helping individuals, households and communities contribute directly to our shared understanding of what types of change we want to make, and what obstacles or barriers we encounter when trying to make such change in our own lives. |
Program participants will learn about goal-setting and set their own goals, gently track their journey and share their stories of change within the group, over the course of twelve months. Learn more about what's involved.
The program will run in two locations: one focused in Burnside and one focused in Mount Barker.
Participants in the program will learn from – and perhaps even become – “local legends” to help spread positive change in their local area.

Benefits of the programOkay, so how is this different from other programs and apps aimed at helping people live more sustainably?
The first point is that Living Lightly Locally begins with creating a collective vision for change (like the image shown). Then, everyone sets their own goals to help bring the vision to life. As a participant, this allows you to identify what matters the most to you and where you would like to direct your change-making energy. The second point is that the program has a distinctly local focus. The changes you want to see – and the obstacles you might encounter – may be unique to Burnside or Mount Barker, and the program is designed to study this. Finally, perhaps the most exciting part is the fact that participants will be sharing their journey by telling their stories, their way, throughout the program. Together we will build a rich and deep understanding of the factors contributing to successful change. |
Participating in the program means you will learn from experts, “local legends” and other like-minded folks about making positive change in their local area. And in so doing, we will all be contributing crucial new knowledge as citizen scientists.
